I have always thought of life as a series of adventures, characterised by facing the unknown, yet confident that somehow it would all work out – even if it meant digging deep. It often meant taking risks, and Hennie wwas always very supportive.
The above photo was taken at Gatwick Airport in August 1971 as I prepared to board a Dan Air flight to Bangkok. My excitement was greatly amplified by the fact that this was to be aboard the iconic Comet 4 airliner (G-APDK). I was on my way back to Laos. I had already spent two years there working with Voluntary Service Overseas (VSO) but now I was returning to develop the work of the C&MA’s recording studio in Vientiane.
This adventure proved to be a steep learning curve for me. In the next four years I was to marry Hennie, whom I had not yet met, witness the birth of our first baby (though actually I was a bit late arriving!), and get out of Sotheast Asia completely following the communist advances in Indochina.
