Today being July 1st we begin the second half of the year. But it also has special meaning for me as I officially enter a new phase of life commonly referred to as Retirement.

It reminds me of the old slogan of Glendale Federal Savings – For a Great Second Half. What that means in practice I have yet to find out. Retired people always seem to be more busy than ever…! Or is that just the impression they like to convey? Tomorrow I shall find out.

Actually I expect to keep working for a while – but on reduced time and with no pay. Life has to be productive to be meaningful – and I still have more things to do than I have time for. My To Do list gets longer by the day. Perhaps the biggest difference will be that I shall now not feel under so much pressure. I can now say no!

I also expect to find more time for things I want to do… A bit selfish? Maybe. Neither my wife or I are the kind of people to indulge ourselves. Better to spend the time being useful or helping our wider family – grandchildren in particular.

The reality has yet to sink in. It is not that I am in denial. In many ways I find it exciting as I contemplate what God has in store for us. It is a bright future and I want to embrace it fully and trust God to make it plain… Will let you all know how it is going…
